Celebrating Women, a Day, a Month, or Always?

March 8 - International Women's Day

Divine Creativity is not limited to or by gender. The Divine Mind is in all of us, and if we are to evolve, we must recognize each other and ourselves as equally part of It. Every woman and girl is essentially a pure expression of the Mind of Creation taking form‌ ‌again‌ ‌and‌ ‌again, and this is why we celebrate women, not only once a year on March 8, but every day.

International Women's Day celebrates women's social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments worldwide and serves as‌ ‌a‌ ‌call‌ ‌to‌ ‌accelerate ‌gender‌ ‌parity. Observed in many countries worldwide, the observance ‌began‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌single‌ day on March 8 in the 1900s, some say. However, to explore International Women's Day's surprising history before the 1900s, read History's blog post about its controversial beginnings leading to more than 1 million people worldwide celebrating the first International Woman's Day in 1911.

The United Nations commemorated International Women's day in 1975 and formally‌ ‌recognized‌ ‌it ‌two‌ ‌years‌ ‌later. This year's International Women's Day theme is centered on countering gender bias and inequality. The celebration of women's rights, contributions, and history ranges from being a public holiday in some places, overlooked in others, to occupying the whole of March.

Wherever we live, we can collectively contribute to creating‌ ‌an‌ inclusive‌ ‌world in which women's accomplishments are acknowledged and celebrated by honoring their influential role in awakening humanity to its spiritual magnificence. See the resources below for inspirational content about women who have shaped history and ideas about celebrating International Women's Day.

We see a world where all women, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, daughters, transgender women, and people who identify as female are celebrated and honored. We see a world in which women have autonomy over their bodies, a world in which all women and their children have enough food, clothing, and safe shelter. We see a world where all women know love and respect and are loved and respected, and where every woman can pursue the life that calls to her.

Join us in celebrating International Women's Day, Women's History Month, and the Divine feminine, today, and always.
